Another small but lovely Autumnal wedding with Sian & Jake in Taunton, Somerset. A simple ceremony at the Taunton Registry Office then to the garden at The Castle Hotel for fun with the family & dogs, a beautiful walk in the park then back for tea. Fabulous cake by Little Buttercup Cakery, flowers by Tilda Rose & dress by WED2B in Bristol. Congratulations guys, I wish you all the best! This charming 1940’s styled wedding at Summer Lodge Coutry House Hotel in Evershot, Dorset https://www.summerlodgehotel.co.uk/ was a real joy! As 2020 has been a stressful & disappointing year for so many prospective brides & grooms, & with the majority of my clients forced to postpone their weddings amidst ever changing restrictions, I chose not to post pictures of past happy couples, parties & family fun & took an online break instead!

But now the season is behind us & we’re starting to look towards next year, I can definitely see some positives to what we’ve just been through, namely, the upside of cut back, intimate weddings. For those couples that did go ahead, some with only witnesses & children in attendance, the scale & intimacy of the occasion took away all the stress & freed up loads of time for romance!

This fabulous wedding in the Marshwood Vale, West Dorset, was the perfect example. Imagine walking through the fields of your farm with your new bride, September sunshine, a cool breeze, views down to the sea… surely the ultimate romantic wedding day?

Great to be back at Powderham Castle last week for their annual wedding fair – if you haven’t chosen your venue yet go check it out, it’s truly fabulous! The rooms are magnificent as are the grounds with Belvedere, lake, deer, roses, woodland… & the staff are so professional & friendly. Definitely 5 stars in my book! The wedding breakfast is such a big part of the wedding day & often the room & the table settings can play a big part in setting the festive scene. Some of the country house venues & hotels in the South West have beautiful dining rooms like these, but equally a well dressed marquee can look stunning!

Don’t like having your photo taken, worried about it spoiling your wedding day?

You’d be amazed how many people feel uncomfortable in front of a camera & don’t look forward to having a photographer around on their big day.

But all this can be avoided!   Choose the right photographer & you can relax, enjoy your day & love your photographs –

5 Tips on how to find a photographer who’ll make you feel relaxed on the day –

  1. Look for someone who works in a natural, less posed, ‘reportage’ style, checking their website for examples of real weddings to see how they cover all parts of the day & if the couples look relaxed
  2. Be sure to choose an experienced photographer, they’ll know how to put you at ease & keep it relaxed. Check how long they’ve been working   & if they’ve covered a variety of situations.
  3. If possible meet a photographer before you book them. It’s important that you like their approach, that they listen to your hopes & fears & that you feel relaxed with them.
  4. Have an engagement shoot, many photographers include one in their package. This is a perfect way to confront your fears & quickly find they disappear! You’ll  familiarize yourselves  with the photographer & the process, get some great photos & see that having your photo taken can be stress free & even fun!
  5. On the day, let go! Trust your photographer, forget about the camera & enjoy every minute of your day, you’ll get great photos!
